After being let out of prison in Canada for good behaviour, Kaala faces the prospect of being thrown back in jail after beating up the son of the chief police officer. His friend Tidda manages to help him escape Canada and he lands in Punjab, where he learns about his legendary father and how his parents died.
Jazz sees Kaala's rage and pain as he theorizes who may have killed his parents. He poses as a documentarian making a film on the public assassination of Tara Singh while investigating his theories.
When his grandmother tells him to enter the music industry to learn who actually killed his father, Kaala tells Jazz that he has decided to pursue music and is ready to audition for Teeja Sur. However, halfway through the audition he gets emotional at the sight of his father's poster and runs out.
Kaala convinces Dimpy to let him sing in the chorus for his new song and uses the lead singer Mika Singh to help showcase his talent. He goes on to convince the music director to turn his solo song into a duet, inviting Jugal's daughter Lata to sing with him.
Jagga, upon learning that Kaala is Tara's son, advises him to remove Baldev from his list of suspects. Later, Kaala and Lata flirt at Kaala's housewarming party while Guru learns that Vicky is indeed cheating on him.
Pratap accepts his son for who he is, while Kaala, after pushing Raman off the road with his car, convinces Jugal to let him sing at the renowned 'Peer Ka Mela'. On Jagga's suggestion, Kaala reveals to the crowd at his performance that he is Tara Singh's son, unaware of what lies in store.
