To earn their place on Steve's team and swim with sharks in a designated Shark Sanctuary in the Bahamas,12 young UK hopefuls have to complete a series of challenges, including swimming, a clifftop leap into water and a demanding abseil.
Steve Backshall has chosen his UK team of six to travel with him to Bimini in the Bahamas, where they learn how to scuba dive. On board the dive boat, they encounter their first shark species - the Caribbean reef shark.
The team journey to Rainbow Reef, where they face their next dive tasks. With training over, and the team split up, Steve takes some for a shallow-water shark experience with the timid black tips, a perfect shark for novices.
Part of the team explores the mangroves, which are essential for the survival of some sharks. While there, they come face to face with baby lemon sharks. Back on dry land, the rest of the team explore Bimini's main tourist area Alice Town.
Bad weather causes sea sickness amongst the team, and their next diving lesson has to be abandoned. To try and boost their spirits, Steve takes the team to Honeymoon Harbour, an island location where they can meet some magnificent rays.
Steve's team have all passed their dive training and are now fully qualified scuba divers. For their first underwater shark encounter, the team meet nurse sharks, a species they have only met before from the safety of the dive boat.
The team splits into two to see which can find the most species against the clock. They then reunite to travel with Steve to meet the resident dolphins and help marine scientist Kel Mellilo-Sweeting with her research.
Steve wants to introduce the team to the bull shark. These are large predators that can be aggressive, so the team have to view them underwater from the safety of a shark cage. Will all of the team be brave enough to take part?
As the team prepare for their great hammerhead experience, Steve has one more dive he wants some of them to experience. He takes four of the divers out to the wreck of an old ship which, over the years, has been colonised by marine life.
The team of young shark saviours are coming to the end of their time in the shark sanctuary around the island of Bimini in the Bahamas. Now, they are on their last dive - to see great hammerheads.
